In Antarctica, in the Weddell Sea, I was captivated by a blue iceberg slowly breaking up, trapped by the bay's currents. The moment when this ice giant begins its final journey.
I wanted to immortalize this scene, to freeze this ephemeral moment where the deep shades of blue tell of millennia of secrets frozen in time. In capturing this image, I sought to pay homage to the ephemeral grandeur of the iceberg, to its vain struggle against the merciless forces of nature.
For me, this photograph is an elegy for a world in perpetual change. As I watched this colossus fragment, piece by piece, I felt a deep melancholy, but also a boundless admiration for this tragic beauty. I wanted to show the splendor in disappearance, the elegance in decay, and remind us that even blue giants eventually return to the sea, their cradle and tomb.
